After this period of deep sorrow, the king decided to honor his wife’s final wish. The upper part of the Taj Mahal houses the tombs of Emperor Shah Jahan and his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, while their actual graves are located in the lower section of the monument. The construction of the Taj Mahal is nothing short of extraordinary, with several fascinating details:
On each side of the Taj Mahal, the architecture is repeated, with one side featuring 11 domes, and the other side also having 11 domes. If you add the two numbers together, you get 22, which is the number of years it took to build the Taj Mahal.
The entire building is made from white marble, which changes color with the lighting, giving the monument a different appearance at various times of the day. On one side, there are 16 gardens, and the opposite side has the same number, reflecting the love Mumtaz Mahal had for flowers. Additionally, there are 52 fountains on each side, and if you place the numbers together, they represent the year the Taj Mahal was completed—1652 AD.
